Red Leather Zatchel

I've always loved vintage-looking things and old-fashioned glamour. It sounds really cheesy but I think there's something kind of romantic about writing letters instead of emails and beautiful perfume bottles laid out across a dressing table. That's why I'm so glad that satchels are making a comeback. They've become really fashionable recently and I love the idea of carrying a battered leather satchel instead of a Louis Vuitton tote.

My mum got me this red leather one from Zatchels for my eighteenth birthday and I am in love with it. I love the colour as it's more interesting than brown but it's more classic than, say, the metallic ones they do. I'll probably still love my red one in ten years' time, whereas I might go off a gold one by the time I'm thirty! They come in a few different sizes but mine is the 13", just big enough to put my Macbook in. As you can see from the photo, it has a long strap but with a buckle on it so you can adjust how long it is. You can also get them inscribed so that you can have your name put inside it but my mum didn't in case I didn't want it, although I'm tempted to get it done now as it just adds a personal touch. You can buy satchels from pretty much any high street brand nowadays but I think if you want a high quality one that's going to last you for years to come, I'd recommend getting one from a proper leather company like Zatchels or The Cambridge Satchel Company. This must look vintage because when my grandpa saw it he said, "I haven't carried one of those since I was at school!"

By the way, I saw the film of Les Miserables at the weekend and loved it, which I wasn't expecting to. I'm a huge fan of the stage show so I was convinced that they wouldn't do it justice but in fairness, I think they did. If Hugh Jackman doesn't win the Oscar or the BAFTA for that performance, I'm 100% done. Have any of you seen it?
